SOAS - Workspace Refurbishment
- Client: SOAS University of London
- Location: London
- Role: Lead Consultant, Designer, Contract Administrator
The Directorate of External Relations and Development brings together Marketing and Student Recruitment, Communications, Development and Alumni Relations to create a dynamic directorate that works to increase the impact and influence of SOAS, University of London in the UK and worldwide.
As Designer, Lead Consultant and Contract Administrator we refurbished the spaces within the main campus building to provide offices, meeting rooms, reception and hospitality accommodation, with a design that reflects the rich diversity of SOAS and provides an environment to strengthen relationships with past, current and potential students, staff, external partners the media and the wider community.
The work was carried out in Grade II and II* buildings. It required negotiation with Conservation and Heritage authorities to preserve and enhance building features whilst incorporating these into a contemporary workspace environment. Like many educational institutions, SOAS remains in use throughout the year with no time when buildings are vacant. The construction works for the project were undertaken in five phases throughout the summer, with the facilities in complete occupation by staff, students and visitors.
