Piam Brown Ward Refurbishment, Paediatric Oncology Department

The Paediatric Oncology (Piam Brown) Ward at Southampton General Hospital, one of only twenty specialist paediatric oncology units in the United Kingdom, caters for a range of ages from 16 years to new born babies. 

As a full inter-disciplinary team, we designed and delivered the remodelling and refurbishment of ward to provide eight new single bedrooms with en-suites, two new two-bed bays, a new bathroom, wet room and toilet, as well as refurbishment of the existing corridors, bays, admin and clinical areas. 

As a dual use inpatient ward and day unit it was vital that our designs were sensitive to the needs of all patients in the shared space. Proudly, we successfully delivered the scheme under a fast-track programme, ensuring adjacent areas of the hospital remained occupational, and the new ward was officially opened by The Duchess of Cornwall.
