Borough of Poole - New Beach Huts
- Client: Borough of Poole
- Location: Poole
- Role: Architect, Principal Designer
As part of a scheme to meet the strong demand and lengthy 18-year waiting period for a beach hut along Poole's seafront, we helped the council design additional provisions. The project comprised the design of 313 new and refurbished beach huts as well as the refurbishment of the Canford Cliffs Pavilion.
The new beach huts were a contemporary design with an asymmetric roof, render and glass finish, and have been carefully designed to contribute to the existing character and appearance of the shoreline.
Careful considerations were also given to the layout and form to ensure that the scheme would not adversely affect the adjacent Site of Nature Conservation Interest (SNCI) and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). After planning approval, the project was put on hold due to cliff stabilisation issues.
