Kendall Kingscott were initially appointed to provide stand alone interior design services for the new restaurant and spa at the Gara Rock complex in South Devon.
On the site of a previous hotel, Gara Rock occupies a stunning cliff top position over looking the South Devon cliffs with wide ranging views and the location is a magnet for walkers and beach users. Our brief, therefore, was to provide an open and welcoming environment to serve the walkers and day visitors using the landscape which would transform into a sophisticated evening dining and leisure venue whilst at all times emphasising the beauty of the location.
Our interior designers have taken the initial concept designs and worked closely with the owners and the restaurant operators to bring them to life. A pallet of natural materials including reclaimed weathered barnwood cladding have been used throughout the scheme. The furniture and fittings have been locally sourced, with the majority being custom designed for Gara Rock including the bespoke joinery elements, brought to life by a local craftsman.
Alongside the successful involvement of our interior designers, our architectural team were asked to review and adapt existing designs that had already been extensively built out. This role required an extensive technical review of the structure and the proposals and the preparation of new tender information for the completion of the initial phases of work that would deliver the completion of the external shell elements and the full fit out of the restaurant and pool spa area.
The restaurant and spa opened to the public at Easter 2013 and future phase of work are now planned which will include designs for a fully operational hotel.
