University of Winchester - Decarbonisation Works
- Client: University of Winchester
- Location: Winchester
- Role: Building Surveyor, Quantity Surveyor, Principal Designer
The University of Winchester was awarded funding to support its strategy to become a Net Zero institution via The Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS). With a preferred contractor appointed under a Design and Build procurement route, we assembled a 1 Team delivery model to reflect the project's demands that needed an agile response.
The project involved various decarbonisation measures, including fabric upgrades, control upgrades, replacement of gas-fired boilers with air-source heat pumps and installation of site micro-generation systems.
We provided technical, contractual, financial and logistical support drawing on our Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying and Principal Designer strands of expertise.
The project has been significant in the University's journey; the carbon savings are immense at over 500 tonnes, with a six-figure financial benefit annually. Proudly, the University is one of the first institutions in the UK to provide a net-zero-ready, fully electrified campus. We are proud to have supported the University's goal to be one of the lowest carbon-emitting universities in the UK.
