Brunel University London - Major Lecture Theatre Refurbishment
- Client: Brunel University London
- Location: Uxbridge
- Role: Building Surveyor, Quantity Surveyor, Project Manager, Principal Designer
As part of a wider programme of teaching space upgrades, our 1 Team solution refurbished a series of lecture theatres in the Central Lecture Block for Brunel University London.
The Grade II listed building, built in 1970, acts as the campus’s central teaching hub hosting over 1000 students a day during term time and hundreds of children during summer school. Works involved two phases of internal alterations and refurbishment to fifteen small lecture rooms and three larger 150-capacity theatres. The first phase acted as a flagship model for the later stage, integrating new methods of digital audio and visual information transfer developed by the University’s Audio Visual department to support virtual learning environments.
Our 1 Team approach allowed us to draw in support from our heritage experts for listed building consideration, ensuring necessary conservation consents were acquired. Works were undertaken over the summer whilst the building was used for a summer school programme. Careful planning and management were required to minimise disruption to building users.
