RICS shortlisting for Castle Hill School
Our project for Hampshire Council to renovate Castle Hill School in Basingstoke has been shortlisted for an RICS regional award in the Design through Innovation category.
Hampshire County Council have over 200 SCOLA system school buildings within their stock suffering from poor environmental comfort due to their inherent lightweight construction and large expanses of single glazing. Consequently the buildings have high energy usage costs both financially and environmentally. Hampshire County Council have recently begun a programme of upgrades to refurbish existing SCOLA buildings to extend their life by a further 30 years whilst improving internal comfort and greatly reducing their environmental impact. Kendall Kingscott were appointed as Lead Consultant in connection with a series of schemes that involved complete replacement of the external facade with a new lightweight insulated brick and render cladding system, replacement curtain walling and roofing upgrades together with internal refurbishment. This approach has been rolled out on numerous sites and proved to be very successful. The work is carried out whilst in occupation and therefore meticulous planning of phasing and decant procedures is vital to ensure the school continues to function with minimal disruption.
