Spotlight: Announcing our new Director of Training and Technical Excellence

"Our mission is that when a client appoints KK, they can be assured of a high quality and consistent level of service, delivered by people who will do the right thing and consider the interests of all involved”

 - Tim Clark, Director of Training and Technical Excellence.

Tim Clark, who became a chartered surveyor in 1996, has become one of the most approachable and trusted figures within our Exeter office. His extensive knowledge spans various sectors, making him a reliable source for any related enquiries. Recently, Tim has taken on a new and exciting business-wide role as our 'Director of Training and Technical Excellence.'

In his new position, Tim has two primary responsibilities: Leading the ‘KK Academy’ and guiding ‘technical’ excellence throughout the practice. The role covers a wide-ranging landscape from managing the introduction of the latest legislative and industry updates, with involvement in quality assuring our professional services and procedures to co-ordinating our lifelong training programme. We had the opportunity to speak with Tim about his history with KK and the journey that led him to this new position, as well as his aspirations for this endeavour…

Tim joined KK in 1997. He began his career in the Bristol office, focusing on public sector clients and gaining experience across various teams. His interest in training was evident early on: he recalls providing his first detailed APC advice to a colleague, who qualified shortly after.

In 2004, Tim became an associate and relocated to the Exeter office, moving to be closer to his family. Since then, he has worked on a variety of projects, reflecting the typical variety of KK's work. Tim has also been involved with evolving our health and safety services, acting as Planning Supervisor under CDM 1994, progressing to CDM Coordinator in 2007 under the 2007 iteration of the regulations, and Principal Designer for CDM 2015. A member of the Association of Project Safety since 2000, Tim notes that he has ironically "fallen accidentally” into this field but is hopeful that interventions in this role have led to genuine health and safety improvements.

Tim emphasises that at KK, we always listen to clients and align with their goals, providing honest, professional advice and seek to provide an excellent service. He believes in the importance of training staff to carry on this legacy. Tim has a natural inclination towards training and finds genuine pleasure in seeing people progress, develop, and achieve their qualifications. He notes that helping others brings him a great buzz.

In his new role, Tim is excited to engage with more people across KK, learning from everyone he meets. He values having an open mind and believes in the importance of listening to others, which helps in identifying training opportunities, and the preparation and delivery of these in a way which will resonate with the listener. He particulary enjoys delivering training face-to-face, facilitating discussions, and gaining different perspectives.

The technical excellence aspect of his role will focus on continuous improvement of procedures and high-quality documentation. The KK Academy is a learning environment with the intention of ensuring that graduates, apprentices, and trainees with KK are supported in their career journey. The intention is to continue to cultivate ‘home-grown’ KK personnel, who carry forward our approach and culture into the future.
