Achieving Chartership: Sophie Ford's Journey
Congratulations to Sophie Ford on achieving her Chartership through CIAT (Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists). This significant milestone marks her official recognition as a design professional, equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience to guide a project from its inception to its completion.
Sophie joined our team in 2020, following her successful completion of a BA (Hons) in Architecture at Plymouth University, followed by an MSc in Architectural Technology and Design from Leeds Beckett University.
Sophie describes how attaining her Chartership has felt like a momentous achievement that represents a natural progression in her career. Unlike academic exams she has previously undertaken, this qualification holds a symbolic value, signifying her growth as a professional.
With her Chartership under her belt, Sophie is excited for a more prominent role in projects and continuing to grow as a Technologist. She acknowledges that she has sometimes doubted herself in the past, but this has helped to reaffirm her own confidence in her abilities. Sophie is eager to look ahead and pursue further qualifications, such as retrofit, and continue her development as a Technologist.
When asked for advice to those aspiring to begin their own CIAT journey, Sophie encourages them to embrace the challenge and believe in their capabilities. She believes that with dedication, anyone can achieve their professional goals.
In her free time, Sophie enjoys Devon life, baking, fitness, and going for walks with her dog Gracie. She is also a keen traveller, having explored many parts of the world including Thailand, Croatia, India, and various parts of Europe. Sophie is known for her friendly and approachable energy in the Exeter office, often brightening everyone's day by bringing in her delicious cakes. She is an integral part of the team, and everyone is very excited for her recent achievement.
Sophie expresses her gratitude for the great support network at KK and extends a special thanks to Will Squire, Paul Scott, and Tim Clark for giving their time to conduct mock interviews and Q&A sessions. She recognises her line manager, Nick Harman, as her biggest role model and appreciates his unwavering support throughout her journey.
“It has been a great pleasure to watch Sophie grow and develop since she joined the practice. We started working on Sophie’s MCIAT Professional Assessment Application last summer and she has worked hard and remained dedicated throughout the process, achieving the submission goal she set herself. A huge congratulations for getting through the Interview and being accepted into CIAT. There was never any doubt, all she needed to do was be herself.”
