Kendall Kingscott were appointed by Oaklands Catholic School & Sixth Form to prepare a comprehensive bid to gain funding from the Condition Improvement Fund for the refurbishment of the Newman Block. The building was in very poor condition with widespread penetrating dampness issues due to failed single glazed window components and associated detailing to the surrounds.
The works comprised replacement of life expired, non-functioning, irreparable windows with thermally ef cient, high performance window units, which reduce heat loss and arrest solar gain, as well as replacement of the existing at roof. Improvements were made to the internal environmental conditions by removing the potential for condensation, mould growth, draughts and water ingress, which had previously been a source of complaints and was adversely affecting the learning environment. Whilst the works took place, the building’s heating system was also enhanced to allow for regulation of the internal environment and to improve efficiency.
