This project involved the conversion of the Grade II listed former Children’s Hospital building at St Michael’s Hill to provide offices and teaching space for the University of Bristol.
This complicated and challenging refurbishment required a sympathetic approach to an iconic Bristol building which had been unused for a considerable period of time. As is the nature of historic buildings there were many hidden issues that came to light as works progressed. Extensive demolitions were required and external treatments to address moisture ingress and damp penetration issues requiring liaison with City Planning and Conservation officers to refurbish elements of the external fabric including roofs, stonework and windows. As far as possible internal features were renovated and maintained. As designs developed our Quantity Surveyor updated cost plans, dealing with early warning notices and contractor’s variations as the project progressed.
The project has achieved a BREEAM Very Good rating.
