Currently looking at the Colston Street, University of Bristol project

We were appointed to renovate and refurbish an existing hostel building to provide new student accommodation.  The building was constructed in the 1920’s and is located in the St Michael’s Hill and Christmas Steps Conservation Area.  It consists of two separate wings, separated by an enclosed courtyard, and addresses both Colston Street and Trenchard Street.

The existing building was stripped back to its shell and refurbished inside and out to provide 121 student bedrooms arranged as 12 flats over 5 floors.  Bedrooms were provided with prefabricated en-suite pod bathrooms except where the available space dictated an in-situ solution.  The former Budokan restaurant, on the ground floor, was converted to provide social space and study area.

The project achieved a BREEAM ‘very good’ rating.
