Kendall Kingscott were appointed to obtain planning permission for the conversion of the Grade II listed former Greenbank Prison. This involved the dual development of a retail store which acted as enabling work for the development of the listed building into student residences.
Our team worked closely with the local planning authority from pre-application through to construction to develop designs which were sympathetic and appropriate to the site, whilst balancing the economic need to provide a viable store which met the client’s standard layout and area requirements.
The store is located to the corner of the site, close to the local retail centre and away from the historic building. It is lower in height so as not to dominate the other structure and responds to local context through the use of natural stone cladding and conservation paving materials which enhance the hard landscaping around both buildings.
