COVID-19 Kendall Kingscott Update

09/04/2020

Kendall Kingscott have always had a carefully developed Business Continuity and Crisis Management plan in place, however, the unprecedented times we face, means this has recently been tested in a way which could not have been envisaged. We are pleased to say that over the last few weeks, our systems have proven to be robust and have responded well during this ever evolving and uncertain time.

COVID 19 - Business Planning & Continuity Team…

We have been closely monitoring the COVID-19 crisis as it has developed over the past few months, along with Government guidance and information from the World Health Organisation, to ensure we implement the correct measures to protect the health and wellbeing of our staff, the clients we work with, our fellow consultants and contractors, as well as meeting our wider responsibility to society as a whole.

A COVID-19 Business Planning and Continuity Team has been assembled throughout this period, meeting regularly (virtually) to review the ongoing situation and align our business response to the rapidly changing position.

Adoption of Remote Working…

We have fully implemented a comprehensive agile working programme and all of our staff are equipped to work securely from home, including VPN dial in to our servers, VoIP and use of Microsoft Teams for conferencing.

We have successfully transitioned to adopt this working from home set up across the whole business. First and foremost to protect everyone’s health and wellbeing, but also to provide greater flexibility during a time when working arrangements must adapt to allow employees to support their families, friends and neighbours. Importantly, by maintaining adequate separation of staff this also ensures resilience, as we are able to manage and limit the impact in the event of any illness; providing clients with reassurance of our ability to offer continuity of service.

Whilst we have always had the capacity to support working flexibly, our systems have never been tested on the scale of a mass transition of the business to this scenario. Our investment in a robust IT infrastructure and the support of our dedicated in-house IT team ensured this was a smooth transition.  Accordingly, our systems have withstood the test, with no significant interruption to our service.

Staying Connected…

Our culture has always been centred on a highly collaborative work environment where cross-discipline interaction is actively encouraged and team work is an important component of our culture.  As a forward thinking practice, we have been able to quickly adapt to the virtual working environment. We have found great success both internally and externally with clients, to stay connected through various platforms such as Microsoft Teams - both in its conferencing ability as well as use as a platform to interact, comment and amend documents in a live environment.

We have put in place strong management disciplines between staff and daily communications to maintain  team bonds and despite the uncertain times, feel a strong sense of community and solidarity throughout our network of staff, clients, fellow consultants and wider contacts.

Supporting Critical Sectors…

As a supplier to many public sector clients working in critical sectors, particularly healthcare in the delivery of essential wards, some of our projects will continue on site. In line with correspondence from the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, construction works such as these are permitted. As a business we are following Government guidelines, taking a considered and proportionate approach in respect of monitoring work on sites. This includes ensuring travel is only made for essential journeys, ensuring staff maintain strict social distancing protocols when on site and that the Government’s guidance on self isolation is immediately adhered to should any symptoms be experienced.

We are also lending our expertise in the design of a minor number of emergency facilities and are proud to be able to contribute in a very small way to the national effort in the fight against COVID-19.

Looking forward…

At this time, we do not know how long the Government’s lockdown measures will be in place or how the COVID-19 crisis will develop. However, we are confident in our ability to maintain our high quality service during this period, as has been tried and tested over the last few weeks and we will continue to take a pro-active response to any future developments based on published Government guidance.

We would like to take this opportunity to express how proud we are of the strong team bonds, commitment, innovation and collaboration which has been demonstrated by our teams during these testing times and our continued commitment to provide assistance to our clients in the planning, design and management of their project endeavours.
